COVID-19 FAQ
Good Shepherd School has partner with Heluna Health COVID-19 Testing Program Program powered by Primary Health. Our COVID-19 Task Force has completed training and offers COVID screening on campus once a week and as needed.
Is testing required?
No. Currently there is no mandate from ADLA for student testing. GSBH will provide convenient testing options for all students and we strongly encourage all families to test weekly. Testing is an important tool for mitigating the spread of COVID-19 on our campus and keeping more students safely in-person.
What kind of testing is being offered?
BinaxNOWTM COVID-19 Ag CARD (antigen test)
What happens if my child tests positive?
If your child has tested positive or has otherwise been confirmed to have COVID-19, we will ask you to follow the Home Isolation Protocol. Your child stays isolated at home until all the following criteria are met:
- Minimum 10 days from symptom onset or, if no symptoms, the date of the positive test
- AND fever free for 24 hours
- AND improved symptoms
- Stay home for at least 5 days, regardless of vaccination status, previous infection, or lack of symptoms.
- Isolation can end after Day 5 if symptoms are not present or are resolving and a diagnostic specimen (COVID antigen test) collected on Day 5 or later tests negative.
Additional instructions for home isolation can be found here: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/covidisolation/
What happens if to the rest of the class if there is a known COVID-19 positive case?
We will strive to keep the class-cohort model in place as much as possible.
Not Required to Quarantine
The following close contacts are NOT required to quarantine and may remain in school.
- Asymptomatic students that are fully vaccinated
- Asymptomatic staff who are up to date* on all COVID-19 vaccines
- Asymptomatic students or staff who are recently recovered from laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days *Up to date on all COVID-19 vaccines: Boosted or fully vaccinated but not yet booster eligible.
Quarantine - but May Remain in School
The following close contacts are required to quarantine but may remain in school provided that masking and testing requirements are met.
- Asymptomatic students with a mask-on-mask exposure at school and test negative in twice weekly testing (i.e., once as soon as possible after exposure and once again on or close to Day 5). Students will be tested on Tuesday morning as a part of our usual testing protocol.
- Not up to date on COVID-19 vaccines: Unvaccinated/incompletely vaccinated or fully vaccinated and booster-eligible but have not yet received your booster dose.
Required to Quarantine and Must Stay Home
If you do not fall into any of the categories above, you will need to quarantine at home and follow the Quarantine and Other Instructions for Close Contacts at ph.lacounty.gov/covidquarantine.
In order to remain in school, testing of asymptomatic persons with an exposure is required regardless of whether or not they are required to quarantine. The exception is that persons with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 in the past 90 days do not need to quarantine or test. Refer to attached flow chart for specific details on quarantine and testing pathways after a school exposure.

What happens if my child is sent home sick during the school day?
We are required to monitor students for the following symptoms: fever > 100.4, new cough, diarrhea and vomiting. In the case your child is sent home with any one of these symptoms, you will be asked to home isolate. The following is our Exposure Management Plan for suspected COVID-19 cases, which outlines options that are available to families if your child is suspected to have COVID-19.
